BAIT:
TopCats encourages anglers to bring their own pop ups and attractants of their choice. However, apart from that, all bait is supplied by them, and is now included in the price of the day ticket sessions.
The daily bait pack they provide consists of:
1kg 20mm boilies (Scopex Squid, Crave, Pineapple, Coconut, TopCats, Spicey Shrimp, Strawberry)
Pallatrax “Jungle Pop Ups” (small pot)
3kg TopCats Mufford/Feeder mix
Maize 500g pack
Bread 3 x Loaf
1kg Dead Bait
This is deemed sufficient bait for the day. However, they advise that for full day sessions, a minimum of 2kg boilies should be used. Should anglers want more, they can purchase extra at a very reasonable rate.
TACKLE:
Each angler is provided with 2 set ups, and only 1 predator rod is permitted at any given time. Typically, most anglers commence with a boilie and a particle set up, swapping one out for a dead-baited predator rig as dusk approaches. The central equipment consists of Century Rods, Shimano Bait Runner reels, and Delkim alarms. While end tackle can vary, the preferred option tends to be Gamakatsu wide gape hooks with an Iseama twist. All essentials required to catch an extraordinary fish are included in the cost. However, if an angler wants to use their own end tackle, it must be inspected by one of the guides. Should an angler wish to bring a small tackle box along, here are some suggestions:
Hooks: Barbless or micro barb that should be crushed before use. Size 2 for the Carp setups & 0 /1 for the predators.
Hook links: all braid minimum 45lbs – 140lbs Kryston Strong option.
Line: Only mono 36lbs upwards Gold Label Tackle Pro Tough or Gamma Polyflex is utilised.
Baiting Needle / Catapult / PVA Mesh / Bait Stops / Rig Tubing large bore / few bright colour pop – ups 12/14mm or wafters.
Personal preferred flavouring or glug.
Bobbins are not used, but anglers can bring their own and fit them to the Delkim alarms if they wish. As for fishing attire, T-Shirts, swimwear/shorts, hats, Sunglasses are recommended, and it’s vital not to forget Sunblock of at least factor 50++. A camera or a good phone is suggested for that all-important trophy shot.
FISHING ETIQUETTE AND RULES:
The rules, are set by TopCats Samui for the safety of the customers and well-being of the fish.
The primary advice is to always heed the instructions of the guides.
The maximum permitted fishing time each day is from 8am until 8pm, with the last cast being at 7:50pm without fail.
The fishing tackle provided is of the highest specification, specifically built for this purpose.
Any equipment broken or lost through negligence will have to be replaced at the user’s expense.
The drag settings are adjusted by the guide and should not be tampered with.
Bait Runners must always be engaged while the rod is in the pod.
When a fish is being reeled in, the second rod of the angler will be wound in by the guide, and caution should be exercised regarding other anglers reeling in fish that may cross their peg.
Once a fish is landed, the guide will assist with the photographic process, and entry into the water is only permitted when the guide confirms that the fish is safely handled and ready. Sharing of rods is not allowed under any circumstances.
